Cardiff Comets is the only Women's team in Wales. We play in the EIHA (English Ice Hockey Association) WNIHL2 (Women's National Ice Hockey League) Division 1 and the Frank Wright Conference with our development team.
The team was founded in 1994, with plans underway as to how to celebrate our 30th anniversary next season. Prior to that the Tiger Bay Tornadoes played out of Cardiff, so there is a long and well established tradition of Women's ice hockey playing out of Cardiff which continues to go from strength to strength.
In 1999 the Comets won the EIHA Womens Div 1 playoffs under Head Coach Suzi Grieve (a Comets legend) earning the promotion to EIHA Women's Premier League. Unfortunately, Covid put an early end to our Premier League season.
We are a welcoming club with an emphasis on the enjoyment of hockey and an active social scene, with many of our players having played for the club for 10+ years. We are an actively inclusive club with members across the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as a diverse range of backgrounds with players of all ages from teenagers upwards to their late 40s.
We continue to develop hockey for women and girls in Wales, and to make hockey accessible to as many players as possible.
