Interested in playing hockey?

Can you play hockey? In short, yes. Hockey is for everyone. Comets Ladies Ice Hockey Club has a plan to get more women and girls into the sport and we are well on our way along that journey. Over the past 5 years we have secured a National Lottery grant for protective equipment for new entry participants to use during their first sessions, developed new coaches and on-ice officials (referees), built strong relationships with other teams as well as building our social media presence.

We set up a Learn To Play programme which proved very popular to the point we had enough regular players to set up a development team in 2022, now registered to the women's recreational league.

Once we can get more ice time and coaches (in progress) we look forward to getting our Learn To Play / casual participant programme back up and running on a more regular basis.

Progression Pathways

First step on the journey is to learn to skate, then learn to play, then get involved in team training, either pay as you go, or full registration to a league team or to one of the local rec (recreational) teams.

STEP 1 - Learn To Skate:

Local Skating Lessons

Ice Arena Wales offer regular skating lessons following the approved Skate UK courses developed by the British Ice Skating Association (BIS), as well as options for 121 coaching.

Xtreme Edges

Xtreme Edges teach comprehensive classes in skating, power skating, stick and puck skills, and much more. They offer skating and hockey classes, skating clinics, and hockey team training across the UK. Sam and the team provided the Comets pre-season training programme and come highly recommended by us.

STEP 2 - Learn To Play:

Our Learn to Play programme is now OPEN! Drop us an email if you are interested in joining out LTP sessions. You will need to have your own Ice Hockey skates to attend.

Hendrikx Hockey

Based in Cardiff, Trevor Hendrikx (2 times NHL draft pick and former Cardiff Devil) has a specialist training facility on site at Ice Arena Wales. A number of Cardiff Comets train regularly 1 on 1 with him to improve their hockey skills.
